A pedestrian died after he was struck in the roadway by a vehicle attempting to avoid an earlier crash in Sherman County early Thursday. According to the Texas Department of Public Safety (DPS), at about 4:30 a.m. Thursday, Aug. 31, a 2018 Ford Escape was eastbound, exiting a curve on FM 297 approximately five miles northwest of Cactus. The Ford was unknowingly approaching a two-vehicle crash in the roadway that had occurred moments earlier. Due to it being dark, the Ford's driver did not see the disabled vehicles on the road in time to stop, DPS said, so he attempted to maneuver between the two vehicles to avoid a collision.
