SHERMAN, Texas (KTEN) — The City of Sherman no longer has a youth curfew. Texas Gov. Greg Abbott signed House Bill 1819 into law on June 9. The legislation prohibits cities from creating curfew ordinances for minors. With the new law taking effect on September 1, the Sherman City Council recently voted to remove its curfew ordinance immediately. That curfew — which had been in place for decades — prohibited children under age 17 to be out after 11 p.m. on weekdays or past midnight on weekends. Police officers are now no longer permitted to stop or detain kids who are out after those hours.
