Sherman, a pastor who has served in the Legislature for four years, is the third prominent Democrat to announce a run for the seat. He joins U.S. Rep. Colin Allred of Dallas, who has a significant fundraising advantage, and state Sen. Roland Gutierrez of San Antonio. Nueces County District Attorney Mark Gonzalez also joined the field last week. Sherman's first campaign video — starring his wife, Michelle — highlights his work on a bipartisan effort to require law enforcement officers to wear body cameras during investigations.
